Delicious down home cooking. Some things are even better than mama makes. Service was a little slow for after lunch, but the food made up for it.

Today was my first visit to Southern Restaurant as I happened to be in the area. It is a typical, unobtrusive, home style southern eatery. The menu has many items from which to choose, daily specials, and dessert options. The server was friendly. The food was very good with large portions. I tried the Fried Chicken Livers, Okra, Turnip Greens, and Rolls. The food was piping hot and well seasoned. I would eat here again if in the area. Highly recommend for comfort food.

Mother's Cooking | Old buildingYou can tell that this restaurant has been there and hasn't been updated since it opened close to 40 years ago. Now, it's not terrible but the building could use some TLC. Especially the bathrooms. That aside, the service felt like home as did the cooking. There was some unique dishes you don't see outside of the house and the Bologna burger I got was delicious. Another positive is the portions. The sides were stacked and they were delicious. If you're looking for a cheaper, home cooked meal you should definitely give this place a visit.

Nothing fancy, just very good Southern cooking at a long established restaurant. The service is excellent too.

Just what I needed as I searched for local comfort food. Catfish was delicious with a light batter and green beans were cooked perfect.

What a great meal! Went with some friends after my daughter's senior celebration at school and really had a great time :) food was amazing and staff were so nice! Definitely recommend this place if you're in the area!!

Local country diner at its finest. Their food is delicious and they offer a wonderful variety of blue plate specials every day. Friday is salmon patty day and it is soooo good

Love that this place opens so early. The service was great and the food amazing. I got the western omelette with sausage and added gravy to it. Very good and filling. Hubby got the pancakes and sausage and loved it.

Over the past several months the service has declined. When we first started going here the food was always served quicky and hot and fresh. Tonight was the second time we have visited and had to wait a long time for lukewarm food to be brought to us. After waiting 40 min tonight we finally received our salads. Then after 10 more minutes our food was brought and it was just fair and not hot. It is not the fault of the servers, it is the fault of the kitchen staff and management.

several months ago i called in a to go order from work at 5:45 pm i arrived at 6:25 pm order not ready i waited 10 minutes more still not ready and no seemed to care if it ever got ready had to cancel order. Today 11/18/19 called in a to go order from work at 5:45 pm arrived at 6:25 pm i had ordered the daily special chicken fried steak white beans and cabbage again the order not ready and they couldn’t tell m when it would be ready. needless to say i again cancelled the order. i will never set foot in theSouthern Restaurant Hixson Tn again and i will not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. This is one of the worst run restaurants i have a ver come in contact with.

Food is good. Portions are small. Chef salad is simply a lot of lettuce, a couple cut up tomato pieces, two slices of apples and beets and a hint of ham(hard to find). Recommend you don't get the salad! French Fries are pretty good but not many of them. Prices are average. PS: you may want to run by McDonalds after you eat because you are still going to be hungry.

I went in with br grandma and there was one couple already eatimg. It took nearly an hour for them to make our food and mine was cold. The potatoes werent that good either and the staff just sat at the bar talking and eating.

Best potato logs known to man right here folks. Never been disappointed with anything on the menu. They stay busy for a reason!
